A case was opened in Astrakhan after checking a shelter with dead dogs

In Astrakhan, a criminal case was opened under the article of fraud after an inspection of the “Ekoshelter”, from where 60 dead dogs without paws, noses and eyes were taken out in November.

As the investigation established, in 2022 the administration of Astrakhan concluded 12 contracts with “Ekopryut” for 28 million rubles. In particular, the shelter had to use the allocated funds to catch dogs, sterilize them, vaccinate them and return them to their habitats.

According to the investigation, the money was stolen. It is clarified that “unidentified persons” from among the management of “Ekopryut” and local officials signed acts on the performance of services, knowing that the obligations under the contracts were not fulfilled.

It is also noted that the prosecutor’s office discovered violations in the shelter back in August 2022 and required its management to eliminate them.

In December, animal rights activists found 60 corpses of dogs with gouged out eyes, severed noses, paws, and genitals at a cattle cemetery near Astrakhan. He assumed that the dead dogs were taken out by the local “Ekopryut”, the activists went there – and also found corpses and emaciated dogs there. Then the animal rights activists declared that they intended to close the Ecoshelter.
