A court in Moscow sentenced activist Ageeva to 8 years in prison in absentia

On Monday, the Lublin District Court of Moscow sentenced anti-war activist Anastasia Ageeva in absentia to eight years in a general regime colony on the charge of spreading so-called fakes about the army. This was reported in the press service of the court.
According to the “OVD-Info” project, the case was initiated due to two anti-war commentators on the VKontakte social network.
As “Nastojachee Vremya” notes, after the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Ageeva was detained twice at anti-war rallies. She was also arrested for 15 days on charges of petty hooliganism. At the end of 2022, as Sota wrote, the activist left Russia, as she claimed, due to threats from law enforcement officers. Now she lives in the USA.
With the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, Russian courts began to more often arrest in absentia people living abroad who are speaking out against the war, as well as sentence them in absentia. In particular, Alexander Nevzorov, Maksym Kats, Ilya Krasylshchik and other well-known figures living abroad were convicted in absentia under the article about “fakes”. For example, Leonid Gozman, Ilya Novikov, and Masha Hessen were arrested in absentia. In early February, a Moscow court arrested the writer Boris Akunin in absentia in connection with the case of fakes and the justification of terrorism.
