The case against Shchelupanova was submitted to the Second Western District Military Court on January 19, “OVD-Info” reports.
It is not yet known what caused the initiation of a criminal case for the distribution of “knowingly false” information about the Russian army. According to the first article, she faces up to ten years of imprisonment, according to the second (justification of terrorism) – up to seven.
On September 23, 2022, Shchelupanova was included in the list of terrorists and extremists maintained by Rosfinmonitoring. This means that her bank accounts have been blocked.
- Shchelupanova is a participant in actions in support of the story of Yuriy Dmitriev, who was sentenced to 13 years on charges of violent acts against his adopted daughter.
- In April 2021, she was arrested for five days for reposting a publication about actions in support of opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
- The criminal article on spreading knowingly false information about the Russian army appeared shortly after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
- In eight months, the Russian courts received 4,800 administrative cases about the discrediting of the army, and the amount of fines for the first six months amounted to almost 86 million rubles. Since the beginning of March, 149 criminal cases have been initiated.
