Russia took 137th place out of 180 in the Corruption Perceptions Index, which is compiled by the international non-governmental organization Transparency International.
The Corruption Perception Index is a composite index measuring the level of corruption perception in the public sector of various countries. Countries are ranked on a scale from 0 to 100 points, where 0 indicates the highest level of perception of corruption, and 100 the lowest.
Russia scored 28 points, as did the Republic of Mali and Paraguay. The index value of 28 units characterizes a very high level of perception of corruption, the study notes.
“Throughout all the years, when the results of the countries in the IEC are correctly compared from year to year, Russia’s indicators fluctuate slightly. This indicates the absence of systemic changes for the better in the field of anti-corruption,” the publication said.
Denmark became the leader of the rating with an indicator of 90 points. New Zealand and Finland shared the second place (87 points). The worst indicators are in Somalia (12 points), South Sudan (13 points) and Syria (13 points) – these countries occupy the last places in the rating for the third time in a row.
