By the morning of April 12, the water level in the Ural River near Orenburg had risen to 11.29 meters. The flood is expected to reach peak values today, and then the water will decline.

According to the administration of the Orenburg region, almost twelve thousand residential houses and more than fifteen thousand homesteads remain flooded. There is no electricity in four populated areas, and electricity is periodically cut off in the districts of Orenburg.

In Orsk, the level of the Urals dropped to 798 centimeters. Yesterday, April 11, it was finally possible to fill up the hole in the dam through which the garden was being flooded. Before that, they could not cope with it due to too high water pressure.

After the water receded in Orsk, residents found corpses of dead animals on the streets. Livestock in the flooded territories were required to be vaccinated against anthrax, and domestic animals – against rabies. Earlier, 615 farm animals and about a hundred horses were taken out of the flood zones from the racetrack.

More than 10,700 people have been evacuated from the affected areas of the Orenburg region, of which about one and a half thousand are in temporary accommodation. Residents of flooded territories are standing in queues for water, humanitarian aid and at the MFC to issue one-time payments.

  • The current flood in the Orenburg region is the largest ever observed in the region. Due to the pressure of the water in Orsk, the dam burst. The flood has been assigned the status of a federal emergency. According to the latest data, the damage to the infrastructure is estimated at more than 40 billion rubles.
  • Residents are being evacuated due to floods in several regions: in the Kurgan, Tomsk, Tyumen, and Kemerovo regions. The flood also affected Kazakhstan: more than 86 thousand people were evacuated from the flood zones there.
