A new case has been opened against Azat Miftahov – about incitement to terrorism

A new criminal case has been initiated against graduate student-mathematician Azat Miftahov – about incitement to terrorism. This is reported by RTVI with reference to Rosfinmonitoring. On August 17, the department added Myftakhov to the list of “extremists and terrorists”.

RTVI asserts that a case has been opened under the article on calls for terrorism. It is not specified what exactly Myftakhov’s concessions were the basis for initiating the case.

In February of this year, it was reported that another criminal case under the “terrorist” article could be prepared against Myftakhov and that it would be tied to the case of “Seta” – an alleged terrorist group that operated in several regions of Russia.

• MSU graduate student Azat Myftahov is already serving a six-year sentence for hooliganism. According to the investigation and the court, he and his associates, who adhere to anarchist views, broke the window of the United Russia office in the Khovrino district of Moscow and threw a smoke bomb into the room. At the same time, there was no one in the office. Myftakhov reported that he gave the testimony against himself under torture. He should be released in September this year.
• The FSB initiated a criminal case against the so-called terrorist community “Network” in October 2017. Eleven people from Penza, St. Petersburg and Moscow were arrested in connection with the case, most of them anarchists and anti-fascists. According to the investigation, young people created a community with the goal of committing terrorist attacks and overthrowing the government. The accused claimed that the case materials were fabricated by the FSB and repeatedly stated that they had given confessions under torture. In February 2020, seven defendants in the “Network” case were sentenced to terms ranging from 6 to 18 years.
