A policeman convicted of torture was released on parole

The court in the annexed Crimea granted the request for conditional early release of former police officer Stanislav Golchenko, who was convicted of torturing Maryna Ruzaeva, a resident of the Irkutsk region. This is reported by Sibir.Realii with reference to human rights defender Pavlo Hlushchenko.

According to him, the court did not ensure Ruzaeva’s participation in the meeting and indicated in the ruling that she did not appear. Hlushchenko claims that a resident of the Irkutsk region applied to participate in the process via video link. The ruling of the court is available to the editors of Sibir.Realii.

Glushchenko reports that Ruzaeva objected to the extradition, since Golchenko not only did not try to stop her torture, but also actively participated in it, and then did not admit his guilt and did not apologize. At the trial, it was he who suggested that the victim say to the defendants: “Thank you for not finishing.”

Earlier, former policemen – Major Denys Samoilov and operative Stanislav Golchenko, who were convicted of torturing Usolya resident Maryna Ruzaeva with a shocker, had their sentences reduced. They were secretly sent from the colony to forced labor in Krym. As a result, they spent less than a year in prison.

• Since 2016, a resident of Usolye-Sibirskoye, Marina Ruzaeva, has been trying to bring to justice the policemen who spent five and a half hours questioning her at the police station. They put a bag on the victim’s head, handcuffed her to a bench and beat her with a shocker, forcing her to confess to killing her neighbor. Doctors diagnosed Ruzaeva with numerous head and body injuries, as well as electric burns.
• Only two years later, human rights activists succeeded in initiating a criminal case against the policemen Samoilov, Korbut and Golchenko from the Usolya-Sibirsk Department of Internal Affairs, but even after that the investigation was stopped and resumed several times after the outcry due to publications in the mass media.
• In June 2021, the court found the Usolya-Sibirsky police officers guilty of torturing Maryna Ruzaeva. Major Denys Samoilov was sentenced to 4 years in the general regime prison, operatives Stanislav Golchenko and Alexander Korbut – 3.5 years in prison each. The court found all three guilty of exceeding their official powers.
