A court in the Altai Republic fined local resident Oleg Melnikov 15,000 rubles for writing a poem in VKontakte. This is reported by “OVD-Info”.

The judge considered the poem “Frozen hearts and hearts…”, which Melnikov published on the eve of 2023, discrediting the Russian army.

In addition to the poem, Melnikov’s other posts and a certificate from a local candidate of philosophical sciences were attached to the protocol. He claims that Melnikov reflects the typical position of “ashamed patriots” who are ready to kneel before Georgians, Chechens and the “Ukrainian regime”. Such a position is connected with Melnikov’s “consumer egoistic pro-Western views,” the philosopher assures.

  • The administrative article on the discrediting of the Russian army appeared shortly after its invasion of Ukraine. The article provides for a fine of up to 50,000 rubles, and for repeated violations, a criminal case with a penalty of up to five years in prison is threatened.
  • Russian courts recognize any anti-war statements as discreditable. According to Mediazona’s calculations, by October 2023, more than eight thousand cases of “discrediting” of the Russian army had been opened in Russia.
