A resident of Chernyakhovsk was convicted in the case of setting fire to the military enlistment office

In Chernyakhovsk, Kaliningrad Region, the court sentenced a local resident, Sergei Chursyn, to two years of hard labor for attempting to set fire to the military enlistment office. This was reported by the press service of the court.

According to the investigation, on the night of September 25, 2022, Chursyn set fire to bottles with incendiary mixture and threw them into the wall of the military enlistment office building. There was no fire. The resident was detained and a criminal case was opened against him for attempted destruction of property by hooligans.

In court, Chursyn did not deny that he had thrown the bottles, but he did not admit guilt in the attempt to destroy the military enlistment office. According to him, he only wanted to damage the wall. Also, the resident of Chernyakhovsk clarified that before that he had been drinking with his wife and her friend, and he could not fully control his actions.

In addition to forced labor, 5% of the state’s income will be withheld from Chursyn’s salary for two years.

• Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian army in Ukraine and the mobilization associated with it, attacks on the buildings of military enlistment offices and administrations have become more frequent in different cities of Russia. At least forty similar cases are known, criminal cases were initiated in several regions. The General Staff of Russia announced that cases of arson of military enlistment centers would be considered acts of terrorism and would be punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
• On February 28, a court in St. Petersburg sent graduate student Vladimir Myronov to a pre-trial detention center for two months. He is accused of hooliganism and public “discrediting” of the Russian army. The investigation believes that on the night of February 26, Mironov broke the windows in the building of the military commissariat of the Vyborg district, and also left anti-war inscriptions on the walls.
• At the end of February, a high school student, 16-year-old Egor Balazeykin, was detained in Kirovsk, Murmansk Region. According to the investigation, he wanted to set fire to the military enlistment office, and now he is accused of soliciting a terrorist act. Later, a second criminal case was opened against the schoolboy – also about the attempt to set fire to the military enlistment office, but already in St. Petersburg.
