A resident of Nizhnevartovsk was sentenced to 13 years in the case of setting fire to the military enlistment office

The court in Nizhnevartovsk sentenced a local resident, Vasiliy Havrilyshen, to 13 years of imprisonment in the case of setting fire to the military enlistment office. This is reported by TASS. The decision was made by the Central District Military Court of Yekaterinburg. In January, the second defendant in this case — Vladyslav Borysenko — was sentenced to 12 years in a strict-regime prison.

Havrilyshen, like Borysenko, was found guilty of committing a terrorist attack based on a preliminary conspiracy. He was also sentenced to one and a half years of freedom restrictions after his release. He will have to spend five years in prison, and the rest of the term – in a colony of strict regime.

The fire at the military enlistment office occurred on the night of May 4, 2022. According to the investigation, the accused threw several “Molotov cocktails” into the building. A week later they were detained.

Initially, charges of arson and hooliganism were brought against Borysenko and Gavrylyshen, but later the charge was increased to include a terrorist act committed by a group of persons.

Borysenko and Havrylyshen admitted their guilt, but did not agree with the reclassification of the case. As reported by TASS, Gavrilyshen said that a person who introduced himself as Rostislav Mukhin allegedly contacted him in Telegram. He offered 1 to 3 million rubles for setting fire to the military enlistment office.

Havrilyshen agreed, after which he received an advance payment of $1,000 for the crypto wallet. He involved Borysenko in the case, and the incident was filmed to show the “customer”. The FSB, which was involved in the investigation, did not provide public evidence of the suspects’ guilt, except for the interrogation protocols of Havrilyshen, which were announced in court.

At least forty similar cases are known, criminal cases were initiated in several regions.
• The General Staff of Russia announced that cases of arson of military enlistment centers would be considered acts of terrorism and would be punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
