The Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB) reported on the detention of a resident of Tyumen, who is suspected of working for the Ukrainian special services. According to the department, he allegedly persuaded Russian servicemen to go over to the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This is reported by “Interfax” with reference to the FSB.
The agency claims that the detainee “inclined an officer of one of the military units to go over with the unit entrusted to him to the side of the Ukrainian Armed Forces” after they arrived in the combat zone. A resident of Tyumen allegedly promised the military to organize contact with representatives of Ukrainian intelligence.
A criminal case under the article on high treason has been initiated against the detainee. He faces punishment up to life imprisonment.
- According to open data, the number of criminal cases of treason increased sharply in March – nine of them were initiated in a month. Residents of the Far East became extras in almost half of all cases. Detainees were reported in Khabarovsk, Primorsky Krai and Komsomolsk-on-Amur.
- In April, the State Duma of Russia in three readings adopted amendments introducing life imprisonment for treason.
- Cases of high treason are almost always marked “secretly”, and the defenders are under a non-disclosure agreement, so information about the essence of the accusation becomes known only in isolated cases.
