A resident of Syktyvkar was fined in the case of the financing of FBK

The court in Syktyvkar fined local resident Vyacheslav Herzberg 300,000 rubles on charges of financing an extremist organization. He claims that he transferred donations to the anti-corruption fund of politician Alexei Navalny. “Mediazona” writes about it.
Herzberg was detained in September of last year, then the fund’s donors were searched in different cities of Russia. FSB officers also detained English teacher Ilya Startsev, Nizhny Novgorod activist Gleb Kalinychev, Iruktsk resident Alexey Kamkin, and Omsk activist Anton Kovryk.
On September 12, 2023, Rosfinmonitoring added Herzberg to the list of “extremists and terrorists”, at the end of November the case was brought to the Syktyvkar City Court.
- Founded by opposition politician Alexei Navalny, the Anti-Corruption Fund was declared an extremist organization in Russia in June 2021. Dozens of cases of criminal prosecution for cooperation with opposition structures are known. The Russian authorities regard the transfer of even a small amount of FBK as financing extremism.
- After the FBK and Navalny’s headquarters were recognized as extremist organizations, hundreds of the oppositionist’s supporters left the country. Alexey Navalny himself is serving a 19-year term in a colony on charges of extremist activity. The oppositionist considers himself innocent, and the sentence is politically motivated. Human rights organizations recognized him as a political prisoner.
