At Vaclav Havel Airport in Prague, a Russian citizen, Yevgeny Gerasimenko, was detained on the basis of an arrest warrant issued by Russia. This is reported by the Deník N portal.
Gerasimenko flew from Riga to Paris with a stopover in Prague. In Latvia, the ego was not detained. In France, the Russian planned to apply for political asylum.
Gerasimenko claims that his family is being persecuted for their anti-war stance and participation in several protests. Russia officially suspects Gerasimenko of financial crimes. Other details are not disclosed.
According to lawyer Vadym Prokhorov, the majority of political prisoners in Russia are in Russian prisons for fictitious economic crimes. “I am surprised that any Western country still responds to Russia’s requests to arrest fugitive Russian citizens accused of economic crimes,” Denik N. Prokhorov quotes.
The lawyer of interest Gerasimenko does not represent, but considers it unacceptable the possible extradition of the Russian to the family.
