In the Tver region, the court sentenced a local resident, Andrei Trofimov, to ten years in a strict regime colony, finding him guilty of spreading “fakes” about the Russian army, calling for extremism and trying to join the “Freedom of Russia” legion, which fights on the side of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
According to “Mediazona”, the trial of Trofimov was held behind closed doors, and therefore there are few details of his case. It is only known that the accused was detained and arrested in May 2022, and that, according to the investigation, Trofimov in correspondence with “unidentified persons” agreed to join the “Freedom of Russia” legion, “received a plan to illegally cross the border with the goal of arriving in Ukraine.” There he allegedly planned to fight against the Russian army.
In September, Trofimov announced a hunger strike in the pre-trial detention center with the demand to hand over to him the letters detained by censorship.
At the trial, the accused asked to assign him the maximum possible term, since he does not recognize the legality of the Russian court.
