A second Russian A-50 plane may have been shot down over the Black Sea

A second Russian A-50 reconnaissance aircraft was most likely shot down over the Black Sea. Russian pro-war blogger Vladimir Romanov writes about this in a telegram. According to him, the plane was shot down by a missile launched from the Mariupol region – that is, we can talk about “friendly fire” as last time. There is no confirmed information about Romanov in other sources yet. Ukraine has not yet commented on this message.

According to the second version, the A-50 was shot down over the Krasnodar region.

The Ukrainian publication Liga.net writes with reference to a source “in the forces of security and defense” that the A-50 was shot down “as part of a joint operation of the Main Directorate of Intelligence and the Air Force.”

Last time, an A-50 – a Russian long-range radar detection aircraft, of which there are less than 10 left in the Russian Air Force – was shot down over the Black Sea in the Berdyansk region on January 14. Russia then did not recognize the loss of the plane.

A-50 is used, in particular, for the detection and tracking of air and surface targets, as well as alerting command posts about the air and surface situation.
