A soldier from Irkutsk was sentenced to 5 years in a colony for “self-wolf” for 7 months

The Irkutsk Garrison Military Court found Private Egor Mysailov guilty of deserting his post during mobilization for more than a month. In 7 months, the “self-wolves” sentenced him to 5 years in a general regime colony, reports the press service of the Second Eastern District Military Court.

According to Sibir.Realii, Mysailov did not return to the military unit on October 17, 2022, and left for the Irkutsk region. On May 11, 2023, he was detained by the police. It is not specified whether Mysailov was mobilized or served under a contract.

• Earlier, the court sentenced 5 years of general regime prison to the second serviceman, who on February 16 left the military unit in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky without the permission of the command. On February 27, he was detained by FSB officers in one of the populated areas of the region. The second soldier from Irkutsk was sentenced to 2 years in the general regime colony for leaving the service for 26 days.
• Russian courts regularly sentence military deserters. Most often – real terms in the colony, sometimes – conditional. Military lawyer Maksym Grebenyuk believes that conditional terms for “self-wolf” were assigned to military personnel in order to be able to send them to the combat zone in Ukraine.
• In September 2022, Vladimir Putin signed a law on amendments to the Criminal Code, which increased prison terms for desertion and desertion during hostilities and mobilization. The first criminal case was initiated in December 2022 in Murmansk.
• The State Duma declares that in the fall session they will adopt separate amendments to the Criminal Code on criminal liability for evasion of mobilization. It will be a matter not only of leaving the unit, but also of failure to appear at the military enlistment office on a summons, and the threat of evasion will be up to five years of imprisonment.
