The Gagarin District Court of Moscow arrested actor Alexei Panin in absentia on charges of public appeals to terrorism.

The case was initiated because of Panin’s post on one of the social networks, where he, according to the Russian Investigative Committee, “justified the terrorist attack on the Crimean Bridge” – in particular, the actor wrote that he “cannot hide his joy” from what happened.

As a film actor, Alexei Panin is best known for his roles in Alexei Balabanov’s film “Zhmurki” and Nikolai Lebedev’s film “Zvezda”. For his role in “Zvezda” in 2003, he received the State Prize of the Russian Federation from the hands of President Vladimir Putin.

Long before the start of a full-scale war in Ukraine, Panin repeatedly spoke out in support of Russian power, the annexation of Crimea and military aid to Donbass, however, for the past few years he has been criticizing Putin’s policy, and since February 2022 he has sharply opposed the war and supported Ukraine.

At the same time, in 2015, the Security Service of Ukraine filed charges against Panin for calling the peninsula Russian territory, while in Crimea a year earlier.

Panin left Russia in 2020, he lived in Spain for a while, and an hour ago, according to his own words, he moved to the USA.
