After the arrest of Strelkov, Gubarev was checked for extremism

Law enforcement agencies are investigating the extremism of Pavel Gubarev, one of the former leaders of the “DPR” separatists, an associate of the arrested Igor Strelkov (Gyrkin). This is reported by “Kommersant” with reference to sources. It is not specified what exactly the check is related to. Gubarev, like other members of the so-called Club of Angry Patriots organized by Strelkov, sharply criticizes the Russian authorities from a radically pro-war position.

The inspection became known after the arrest of Strelkov on charges of public appeals to extremism. During the court session, Gubarev staged a single picket at the building of the Meshchansky court in Moscow. He was detained for a short time and released, warned about the inadmissibility of pickets (they are still prohibited in Moscow under the pretext of a pandemic of the coronavirus infection, which, according to the WHO, is no longer an emergency situation).

After the message about the check for extremism, Gubarev published a telegram post with the words: “Tightening the nuts is usually good. But if the structure is rotten and rusty, that is, there has been a degradation of the mechanical properties of the metal (fatigue of the metal), then when you screw the nuts, the structure breaks. Tighten harder, kill yourself already! We are all very tired of you! Glory to Russia!”

• Pavel Gubarev became famous in the spring of 2014, when at one of the pro-Russian rallies in Donetsk he was declared the “people’s governor” of the Donetsk region. He was soon arrested by the SBU and released in the course of an exchange between the Russian-backed separatists “DPR” and Ukraine. He was not allowed to come to power in the “DPR” and harshly criticized the top of the separatists – just like Strelkov.
• In February 2022, Gubarev enlisted as a private in the Russian army to take part in a large-scale invasion of Ukraine. Later he left the military service. He headed the “Club of Angry Patriots” created by Strelkov’s associates. Gubarev’s wife Ekaterina held the position of deputy head of the Russian occupation administration of the Kherson region for some time. It was reported that a criminal case had been initiated against her, but no action was taken. She left her position.
