Alexei Navalny’s lawyer, Vasyl Dubkov, was detained

Lawyer Vasyl Dubkov, who previously represented the interests of politician Alexei Navalny, was detained in Moscow. This is reported by the Sota publication with reference to its sources. According to Sota, Dubkov is accused of violating public order, he is in the Shcherbynka police department. It is not specified what exactly caused the detention.
After Navalny’s death in a colony in the Yamalo-Nenets district, Dubkov accompanied the politician’s mother Lyudmila Navalny to Salekhard, where she tried to get her son’s body handed over to her.
Vasyl Dubkov is a lawyer from Novosibirsk. He repeatedly acted as a defender in political cases, cooperated with the “OVD-Info” initiative, which provides legal assistance to those detained at political protests.
- Since the fall of 2023, three lawyers who defended Navalny have been in pretrial detention on charges of aiding extremism: Vadym Kobzev, Alexey Liptser, and Igor Sergunin. The Russian authorities consider the fact that lawyers, as part of their professional activities, visited Navalny in the colony and released his writings as “aiding and abetting extremism”. Two more lawyers of Navalny – Olga Mykhaylova and Alexander Fedulov – left Russia and were arrested in absentia by Russian courts.
