The Ministry of Justice of Russia included the president of the interregional Uzbek community “Vatandosh” Usman Baratov on the so-called list of extremists and terrorists. “Novaya Gazeta — Europe” drew attention to this. It is not specified what exactly the authorities saw in Baratov’s attitude to extremism or terrorism.

Usman Baratov has been in the Moscow SIZO since January 19. He is accused of “inciting hatred or enmity” due to posts on social networks.

In December last year, Baratov published a post related to the discussion of the sharp rise in prices for chicken eggs. The post contained a picture of a chicken and the caption: “Fine with butter, not eggs! Bring back the roosters from the front.” Russian pro-Kremlin bloggers saw in the picture a hint of the wives of the mobilized – participants in hostilities on the territory of Ukraine, and appealed to the Investigative Committee with a collective application. Baratov was arrested.

He did not admit his guilt. Commenting on the accusation brought against him, Baratov said that “the satirical photo of chickens has nothing to do with the participants of the SVO”.

  • Also today, a Russian opposition politician, former State Duma deputy Gennady Gudkov, who repeatedly spoke out against the invasion of Ukraine and against political repression in Russia, was added to the list of “terrorists and extremists” by the Ministry of Justice.
