What is known
Qualcomm is making a long-term bet on the automotive sector as a profitable customer base for its chips and related communication technologies.
Autotalks technology is used in sensors that help vehicles (for example, bicycles, cars) and their drivers detect road hazards, such as oncoming vehicles in the driver’s blind spots; it also communicates with other vehicles using compatible technologies to increase response speed.
Qualcomm said it plans to integrate Autotalks V2X communication technology into its Snapdragon digital chassis portfolio.
The terms of the acquisition are not disclosed, but a source close to the agreement reports that the price is $350-400 million.
“We look forward to working together to create global V2X solutions that will help reduce time to market and ensure mass adoption of this critical security technology,” said Nakul Duggal, senior vice president of Qualcomm Technologies.
