The project of the eleventh package of sanctions of the European Union against Russia provides for the prohibition of access to European ports for vessels that try to circumvent the already introduced restrictions on Russian oil.

This was reported by the Bloomberg agency, which has familiarized itself with the draft sanctions proposals, as “European Truth” writes.

The European Commission, which circulated a draft of new sanctions against Russia among member states, explains the need for new restrictions by “a sharp increase in fraudulent practices and associated environmental risks” by vessels trying to circumvent the price ceiling for Russian oil and the ban on its sea imports. in the EU.

The sanctions stipulate that vessels that violate sanctions or are suspected of violating them by transshipping Russian oil must be removed from European ports and locks.

As you know, in December 2022, the EU banned the supply of Russian oil by sea. But the Russian Federation found a way around this restriction by transferring its oil from one vessel to another at sea.

For this operation, as previously reported by the media, Moscow has created a “shadow fleet” of tankersthe basis of which is the old ships of the Western countries, which they planned to conserve or give away for scrap metal.

Earlier on Monday, it became known that the European Commission last week sent proposals to EU member states regarding the 11th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation.

According to the mass media, within its borders, the European Union is also discussing a new sanctions mechanism aimed at third countries that do not sufficiently prevent Russian evasion from already introduced restrictions.
