It is noted that Osypova openly expresses her protest against the war in Ukraine. However, a number of her works are not presented at the exhibition. In this way, the organizers want to protect the author from being prosecuted under the article of the Criminal Code on spreading fakes about the Russian army.
Previously, Elena Osypova repeatedly organized individual pickets on the central streets of St. Petersburg, during which she dismantled her works. Every time they were seized by the police, and once, last summer, the artist was attacked and her poster torn by patriotic activists.
- An article on the spread of fakes about the Russian army was added to the Criminal Code of Russia shortly after the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The Russian authorities call any information about the war that contradicts the official reports of the Ministry of Defense a fake. Violators of the article face long prison terms – up to 15 years of imprisonment. At the moment, hundreds of similar criminal cases have already been initiated. According to human rights activists, in this way military censorship has actually been introduced in Russia.
