A former employee of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Krasnodar Territory was sentenced to 12 years in prison, found guilty of treason. According to the investigation, the official, whose name has not been released, collected data that “could be used against the security of Russia” and passed it on to foreign intelligence.

In August last year, the FSB reported on the detention of a Russian citizen in Krasnodar, suspected of cooperation with the Security Service of Ukraine. Then it was reported that a Russian under the pseudonym “Archy” was giving information to the SBU for a reward.

  • Human rights activists note that the number of criminal cases brought under the article of the Criminal Code on treason has increased sharply in Russia recently. If for the whole of 2022, 22 such cases were initiated, which was already a record in recent history, then this year this indicator was reached by June. For comparison: over the previous 25 years, from 1997 to 2021, 117 people were accused of treason.
