In Russia, a criminal case has been initiated against publicist Alexander Nevzorov. According to the publication “Fontanka”, Nevzorov is charged with “evasion of the obligations stipulated by the legislation of the Russian Federation on foreign agents”. The Ministry of Justice of Russia added Nevzorov to the list of so-called foreign agents in April last year.

It is not specified exactly what rules Nevzorov did not follow. Persons recognized as “foreign agents” in Russia are required to mark all their publications, including posts on the Internet, with the appropriate signature. In addition, they are obliged to regularly provide the authorities with financial reports on their income.

Nevzorov has already been fined four times under administrative articles for the lack of “foreign agent marking”. In addition, for his speech, the Russian court sentenced him to fines under the article “inciting hatred”.

This is not the first criminal case against Nevzorov. On May 6, 2022, the court arrested him in absentia, and in February 2023 he sentenced him in absentia to eight years in prison for publishing about alleged crimes committed by the Russian military in the Ukrainian cities of Mariupol and Bucha.

  • After the war in Ukraine, Alexander Nevzorov moved abroad. He takes a radically anti-Kremlin position and supports Ukraine.
