At least 667 million records of personal data were leaked in Russia per hour

In 2022, 667 million records of personal data were leaked from Russian companies. This is almost 2.7 times more than in the previous one. This is reported by RBC with reference to the InfoWatch report.

Names, dates of birth, telephone numbers, real and e-mail addresses, passport data, order details, hash passwords and other sensitive information were publicly available. According to the data of the darknet monitoring service DLBI, about 100 million unique e-mail addresses and 110 million unique phone numbers of Russians have become publicly available.

Experts of the InfoWatch company directly link the increase in the number of leaks to the war in Ukraine. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, there have been several large leaks of user data, and state websites have become increasingly subject to DDoS attacks.

Among the sources of data leakage of Russians were: banks (Sber and Sovkombank), airlines (“Pobeda”, Utair), Mosgortrans, Russian Railways, ticket booking services, communications operators, the Russian Post, traffic police, SDEK, online stores and delivery services, “Government services “, “Moscow Electronic School”, “My Documents”, medical services, jewelry chains, online cinemas and mass media, reported “Network Freedoms” at the end of December 2022.

The experts interviewed by RBC noted that the vast majority of leaked data of Russians were posted on forums and in thematic Telegram channels – free of charge. Thus, according to Valery Baulin, the representative of the Group-IB information security company, the motive of the hackers was “reputational or economic damage to Russian business and its clients.” According to Group-IB estimates, there may be twice as many leaks – 1.4 billion periods of user data.
