Within a few months, Ukraine and Poland plan to launch a connection between Warsaw and Rava-Ruska with a transfer to Lviv – this checkpoint has not worked for 20 years.
This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction Oleksandr Kubrakov, reported press service Ministry of Development of Regions, Territories and Infrastructure.
In order to launch the route, Ukrzaliznytsia restored an 8.4 km long section of Eurotrack and renovated the railway station at the Rava-Ruska station.
It is noted that the first train has now set off on a test trip. Since April 5, Ukrainian and Polish railway workers are conducting a test trip on the route Lublin – Rava-Ruska on the 1435 mm Eurogauge.
After the test trip, the Polish side will need several months to deploy full-fledged customs and border control and complete formalities, after which the date of the start of regular service will be announced.
The ministry notes that this will create a convenient transfer point in Rava-Ruska between a train on the European track and a Ukrzaliznytsia train on the Ukrainian track for passengers heading to Poland. After the transfer, passengers will be able to reach Lviv.
According to Kubrakov, the launch of the connection between Warsaw, Lublin, Rava-Ruska and Lviv will satisfy the huge demand of Ukrainians for logistics by train to and from the Polish capital, as well as relieve traffic checkpoints.
The restored railway checkpoint in Rava-Ruska, the Ministry of Reconstruction explains, has not served passengers for more than 20 years.
