Canada will provide Ukraine with a loan of almost $2 billion

This year, Canada will provide Ukraine with a loan of 2.4 billion Canadian dollars (1.8 billion US dollars) to support the budget.

Currently, the budget, presented on Tuesday by Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, is under consideration in the Parliament of Canada.
The new loan for Ukraine will be channeled through the International Monetary Fund and aims to help the government of Ukraine cover its budget deficit and pay for social services, including health care, for an estimated 5.3 million internally displaced people.
Separately, Canada’s federal budget also announced the allocation of more than $60 million in additional direct humanitarian aid to Ukraine. The money will be used for mental health services, demining and other activities.
The budget also provides for almost $126 million in additional payments to support immigrants from Ukraine in Canada. According to the Canadian government, 200,000 Ukrainians have arrived since January last year.
So far, Ukraine has received $4 billion in Canadian aid, including about $1 billion in military aid in the form of both direct donations and equipment for the Ukrainian military.
