China rehearsed the blockade of Taiwan and missile strikes on the island

The Chinese army has completed military exercises around the island of Taiwan. During the study, the Chinese military rehearsed the scenario of the blockade of Taiwan, as well as the delivery of high-precision strikes on the island’s military infrastructure.

The Ministry of Defense of Taiwan published a map of the exercises and specified that more than 60 military aircraft and 11 military ships, including the aircraft carrier “Shandong”, as well as combat helicopters, took part in them. Taipei also said that 45 Chinese planes either crossed the middle line of the Taiwan Strait, the unofficial dividing line, or flew into the southwestern part of Taiwan’s air defense identification zone.
The Ministry of Defense of Japan has reported that it is closely following the Chinese exercises. The department emphasized that the exercises took place in the immediate vicinity of Japan’s territorial waters. Warships of the Chinese army approached a distance of 230 kilometers from the Japanese island of Miyako in the province of Okinawa. There are US Air Force bases in this province.
According to the BBC, on Monday the anti-missile defense ship of the US Navy “Milyus” was located in the South China Sea 800 kilometers south of Taiwan. Beijing claimed that the “Milyus” invaded Chinese territorial waters, Washington denies this.
The European Commission expressed its concern about the growing tension between China and Taiwan.
- Beijing considers Taiwan its rebellious province. The People’s Republic of China always strongly reacts to the public contacts of American politicians with the leadership of Taiwan, insisting that they undermine the principle of “one China”, which the United States recognized in 1972.
- The United States does not recognize Taiwan as an independent state, as do most UN countries, but strongly opposes China’s threats to annex the island by force. According to the legislation, Washington can provide military assistance to the territories.
