Vitaliy Akyshyn, convicted of the murder of State Duma deputy Halyna Starovoytova, has applied for parole. This was reported in the press service of the St. Petersburg courts.
In the petition, the convicted person stated that he had served two-thirds of his prison term and asked to replace the remaining part of the sentence with forced labor. The materials have been handed over to the judge, but have not yet been accepted for production.
In May 2005, Vitaly Akishyn was sentenced to 23.5 years in a penal colony. He was found guilty of an attempt on Starovoytova’s life and attempted murder of her assistant Ruslan Lynkov.
Galina Starovoitova was killed on November 20, 1998 on the doorstep of her apartment in St. Petersburg. In 2005, the court sentenced the perpetrators of the murder – Vitaly Akishin and Yuriy Kolchyna (he received 20 years in a maximum security prison).
In 2015, former MP Mykhailo Glushenko was also convicted of organizing the murder of a 17-year-old in the colony. In September 2021, he also asked for parole, but the court refused him.
Hlushchenko pleaded guilty and gave testimony in which he named Vladimir Barsukov (Kumarin), the leader of the Tambov organized crime group, as the mastermind of the crime.
In 2019, Barsukov was charged, but as another organizer, not the customer of Starovoitova’s murder, his case has not yet come to court. He is serving time in a second criminal case.
