Sweden buys isotopes from the Russian Federation from the manufacturer of nuclear warheads

The Russian Elektrokhimpribor plant, which produces, among other things, nuclear warheads, supplies Sweden with rare radioactive isotopes through companies that may be connected to Russian special services. This is confirmed by the Swedish publication Expressen. According to his data, the supply of isotopes is partially financed from Swedish state sources. The purchase of radioactive isotopes in Russia is not subject to sanctions.

The material emphasizes that radioactive isotopes can be used in scientific research and for medical purposes. In the period from February 2022, when the large-scale invasion of Ukraine began, to March 2023, the company “Electrokhimpribor” exported isotopes worth more than 35 million dollars worldwide, according to the publication. At the same time, the sale of isotopes is called a “side business” of the plant, since the main direction of its activity is the production of nuclear weapons.

According to the investigation, Russian isotopes are delivered to Sweden by the forwarding companies Vealog and BDP-International. Both companies were founded by Vyacheslav Kaizyn, a citizen of Moldova and Sweden. Earlier, it is claimed, Sweden suspected him of espionage and connections with GRU agents, but later he received the status of a witness. At the same time, the Expressen publication claims that the firm was used by “a network of GRU agents to deliver equipment to the Russian military.”

Another Swedish company – Neonest – buys isotopes from Kaizin companies and then sells them around the world. Its owner is a Russian with Swedish citizenship, Peter Vasiliev. In a conversation with Expressen, Vasiliev admitted that he buys products from Elektrokhimpribora, however, he said that he did not know that this company also produces nuclear warheads. He emphasized that he does not see ethical problems with his business, since the isotopes resold by his company are used for medical purposes.
