Correspondent of Russian RIA “Novosti” died in Ukraine

Rostislav Zhuravlyov, a military correspondent of the Russian state agency RIA Novosti, died in Ukraine. This was reported by the agency itself on Saturday. According to the report, Zhuravlyov was killed “during Ukrainian shelling in the SVO zone” (special military operation – that’s how the Russian authorities call the war in Ukraine).

According to RIA “Novosti”, the shelling took place in the area of ​​Pyatikhatka settlement in the Zaporozhye region. Since the beginning of June, persistent battles have been fought for this village, it was reported that it was taken by Ukrainian forces.

Also, according to the agency, his photo correspondent Konstantin Mikhalchevskii was injured.

The Union of Journalists of Russia reports that “Izvestia” correspondent Roman Polshakov and cameraman Dmitry Shikov were also wounded, and among those who came under fire were correspondents of TASS and the “Russia” TV channel. The Ministry of Defense of Russia reported that the shelling took place on Saturday around noon.

Zhuravlyov ran the Nezhurka telegram channel, in which he wrote about the war in Ukraine. Previously, he was an activist of the banned National Bolshevik Party and the unregistered party “The Second Russia of Eduard Limonov”, headed its Sverdlovsk department. In 2014, he actively participated in the annexation of Crimea and the war in Donbass on the side of separatists supported by Russia.
