Deputies raised the age of service in the reserve of the Russian army

On July 18, the State Duma adopted in the third, final reading a bill on raising the age limit for soldiers, sailors, sergeants, foremen, ensigns, and midshipmen in the reserve by five years.
According to the document, the age limit for conscripts of the first category is increased from 35 to 40 years, the second – from 45 to 50 years, and the third – from 50 to 55 years.
For senior officers with military ranks, the age limit for being in the mobilization reserve has been increased to 65 years, for junior officers to 60 years, reports RBC.
The publication notes that in July, the Russian parliament may consider in the second and third readings a draft law on a step-by-step increase in the conscription age for military service. This was reported by the head of the Duma Committee on Defense Andrey Kartapolov. The proposal to raise the conscription age was made in December 2022 by the head of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Sergei Shoigu. President Vladimir Putin supported the initiative. The government approved the proposal at the end of May.
