The director of the Institute of the USA and Canada of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Valery Garbuzov, has been removed from his post, Meduza reported, citing two acquaintances of the scientist. The publication appeared on Friday evening. It states that, according to one of Meduza’s sources, Garbuzov was removed “by the decision of the founder.” However, on the website of the USA and Canada, the director’s name is indicated as before.

On August 29, “Nezavisimaya Gazeta” published a column by the director of the USA and Canada, in which the author debunks myths about the West used by Russian propagandists. Garbuzov also expresses his opinion about Russia’s place in the world.

The scientist believes that the myths offered by the modern Russian government are spread at the expense of the state propaganda machine: “well-paid professional political manipulators and participants in numerous television talk shows.” Among these myths, according to him, is the idea of ​​the crisis of globalization and the “Anglo-Saxon” world, the anti-colonial revolution, the loss of American dominance, the great global anti-American revolution and the decline of the West, draws the attention of the Medusa publication.

Next, the column notes the goal that, according to Valery Garbuzov, Russian propaganda pursues. We are talking about the immersion of Russian society in a world of illusions and the intention of the ruling elite to keep power in their hands indefinitely and at any cost.

The publication was criticized by employees of the propagandist mass media. In particular, the presenter of Komsomolskaya Pravda radio, Sergey Mardan, compared it with the posts of Igor Strelkov (Gyrkin), and the publication “Polytnavigator” collected all the indignant comments on the article in its own note.

It is not known for certain whether Garbuzov’s suspension is related to the publication, Meduza emphasizes. Therefore, the publication sent a request to the Institute of the USA and Canada of the Russian Academy of Sciences, but as of the late evening of September 1, no response had been received.
