Film director Vadim Abdrashitov died on February 12 at the age of 79. This is reported by Russian agencies with reference to the Union of Cinematographers.
Abdrashitov was born in 1945, studied at VGIK. His first film was the satirical comedy “Stop Potapov!” (1974 hours).
Most of the director’s films were shot in collaboration with screenwriter Alexander Mindadze. Abdrashitov’s most famous films were shot in the 1980s, before and during perestroika. Among them is “Parade of the Planets” – an allegorical story about participants in military gatherings, and “Plumbum, or the Dangerous Game” – about a teenager who decided to fight criminals, himself not complying with the requirements of the law. The film “Armavir” was shot based on the tragedy of the ship “Admiral Nakhimov”.
The 1995 film “Play for a Passenger” received the “Silver Bear” at the Berlin Film Festival, and Abdrashitov’s last film “Magnetic Storms” in 2004 received the “Nika” and “Golden Eagle” Russian film awards.
Abdrashitov was a People’s Artist of Russia, during the years of perestroika he was the secretary of the board of the Union of Cinematographers, headed the film festival “Stalker”, taught at VGIK.
