On Friday, August 11, at 10:00 a.m., the Ukrainian SOE Weekly project in partnership with “Economichnia Pravda” will hold an expert discussion on the topic “Kobolyov Awards and corporate governance of Naftogaz: a complete analysis of the most important facts.”

Participants will discuss how the decision was made to establish a bonus for Naftogaz management, what the bonus was promised for, why there were claims about its legality, and how this story can affect corporate governance reform and the rule of law in Ukraine.

Ukrainian SOE Weekly project experts Andriy Boitsun, Oleksandr Lysenko, and Dmytro Yablonovsky, together with Case Ukraine executive director Dmytro Boyarchuk and Olyana Gordienko, corporate governance advisor of the ICU group of companies and former head of the supervisory board of Ukreximbank, will take part in the discussion.

We will remind, that in January of this year NABU and SAP informed the former chairman of the board of Naftogaz of Ukraine Andrii Kobolev of suspicion of embezzlement of over 229 million hryvnias. According to the investigation, in 2018 Kobolev issued an illegal order to reward the company’s employees, on the basis of which he was paid almost 261 million hryvnias for extraordinary achievements.

This payment was part of the bonuses awarded to the company’s management for Naftogaz’s historic victory over Russia’s Gazprom in the Stockholm Arbitration Court. NABU stated that the premiums significantly exceeded the legally established limits for such payments.

The event “Kobolev Awards and Naftogaz corporate governance: a complete analysis of the most important facts” organized with the financial support of the European Union as part of the project “Supporting Ukraine in rebuilding and recovery”, implemented by the KSE Institute.

The broadcast will be available on the pages of Ukrainian SOE Weekly at Facebook and YouTube. Registration for link.
