In 2022, 657,000 push-button mobile phones were sold in Ukraine, which is 42.2% less than the previous year. In monetary terms, the market fell more modestly – by 28% and reached UAH 528 million, GfK Ukraine calculated.
The situation is better with smartphones. In Ukraine in 2022, these devices sold 3.3 million units, which is 32% less than last year. The monetary volume of the market decreased by 11.4% to UAH 29.9 billion.
Reducing the sale of push-button telephones is a long-standing trend in Ukraine, says Andrey Osadchiy, head of the department of partnership with retailers at GfK Ukraine. As for smartphones, they were bought less, mainly due to the general travel of imported equipment, says the commercial director of the Foxtrot chain, Vyacheslav Sklonny.
In particular, the price tags for smartphones have increased by 30% on average compared to last year, and for push-button phones by 24%, Foxtrot and Eldorado note.
At the same time, every fifth smartphone purchased from “Foxtrot” is premium class, that is, it costs more than UAH 20,000. In particular, sales of Apple smartphones have increased, notes Roman Ivashkevich, head of Eldorado’s personal electronics department.
A significant increase in the sale of smartphones occurred during the New Year and Christmas holidays of 2022-2023. Sklonny with “Foxtrot” notes that during this period, users bought 2.5 times more smartphones in his network than in ordinary days.
