EKSMO publishing house was fined 900,000 for a comic book about a pigeon

The Zelenogradsky district court of Moscow imposed a fine of 900 thousand rubles on the publishing house EKSMO on charges of so-called “LGBT propaganda”. This is reported by “Roskomsvoboda” with reference to the case file. The court found signs of propaganda of non-traditional relations in the comic book “Golubi Gennady”, which was published by the publishing house.
Earlier it was reported that the protocol at the EXMO was drawn up after the appeal of State Duma deputy Alexander Khinshtein. He claimed that the comic, in his opinion, “openly forms homosexual attitudes, although it has an age rating of 12+”. In addition, Khinshtein considered it outrageous that the author of the comics – an artist who performs under the pseudonym Koro – lives in Ukraine and “doesn’t hide that she directs royalties from the books to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”
Perhaps, one of the phrases in the description of the main character could become “LGBT propaganda”: “Sometimes instincts get the better of Gennady. Pigeons don’t always distinguish the sex of a friend. That’s why Gennady prefers to think that he’s pansexual.”
As reported by Daily Storm, the general director of EXMO Yevgeny Kapyev is surprised by the persecution. He clarified that the book was released back in January 2022, that is, before the laws on “LGBT propaganda” were tightened, and it has not been in stores for a long time. “This is a comic about real pigeons. There is one picture, someone didn’t like the phrase. I don’t remember it now, I have to look it up on the Internet. But the comic has long been taken off the market. It is not clear why we have complaints!” – said Kapiev.

In 2022, the deputies adopted a new law. According to it, the publication and dissemination of any information that, according to the authorities, “promotes non-traditional sexual relations, pedophilia or gender reassignment” among people of all ages.
