The “Support Service” project was declared “undesirable” in Russia

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Justice of Russia added three more organizations to the register of “undesirables” on the territory of the country. Among them is the “Support Service” project, created in Latvia by media manager Ilya Krasilshchik. The project provides anonymous consultations to those affected by Russia’s war in Ukraine: volunteers, human rights defenders, and ordinary citizens of any country, primarily Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine. Consultations are provided, for example, on issues of moving abroad, mobilization or psychological assistance. The project also includes news media on Instagram and Telegram.

In October, Roskomnadzor blocked access to the “Support Service” on the Internet for Russian users.

In addition, the American “Global Network of Investigative Journalists” (GIJN) is considered “undesirable”. It has existed since 2003 and unites journalists from 90 countries of the world.

The list of “undesirable organizations” was also completed by the NPO “Real Russia”, registered in Great Britain. It was created by businessman Oleg Radzinsky, writer Grigory Chkhartyshvili (Boris Akunin), actor Mikhail Baryshnikov and economist Sergey Guriev in response to Russia’s military aggression in Ukraine. The mission of “Real Russia” is to help those affected by the war and to unite all people of Russian culture who oppose aggression, as indicated on the organization’s website.

  • More than a hundred organizations have already been declared undesirable in Russia, among them are NGOs, human rights and investigative centers, mass media, including Russian ones such as “Meduza” and “Dozhd”, religious and opposition associations. In particular, opposition politician Vladimir Kara-Murza is serving a long prison term on charges of participation in the activities of an undesirable organization.
