The court in Crimea, annexed by Russia, sentenced the former mayor of the resort town of Simeiz, Yury Lomenko, to 16 years in prison on charges of treason. According to the court, in 2017-2018, Lomenko collected and handed over information constituting a state secret, including information about FSB employees, to the Ukrainian special services.
Lomenko headed the Simeiz administration in 2013-2014, then moved to Yalta. As “Mediazona” clarifies, there he managed the public organization “Ukrainians of Yalta”, which was liquidated in September 2021. In September 2019, Lomenko became a deputy of the Yalta City Council, elected in a single-mandate district from the United Russia party. He was arrested on suspicion of espionage in November 2021.
It is not specified what kind of secret information we are talking about. The trial was held in closed session. In addition to being imprisoned in a high-security prison, Lomenko was also sentenced to a fine of 300,000 rubles.
