Last week, the military parade on May 9 was canceled in the Bryansk region. The governor of the region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, announced that he did not want to “provoke the enemy with a large concentration of equipment and military personnel in the center of Belgorod.”
The authorities of the regions do not rule out that the procession of the “Immortal Regiment” may take place, but in what format it will take place has yet to be clarified.
Last year, the May 9 parade was also not held in Belgorod, but the celebration took place in Kursk.
Russian regions bordering Ukraine – Kursk, Belgorod, and Bryansk regions – regularly come under fire, causing destruction and casualties. Regional authorities claim that the attacks are being carried out from the Ukrainian side. Kyiv does not comment on these messages.
There were no reports of plans to cancel or change the concept of the main parade on Red Square in Moscow. The press secretary of the Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov, said that the event will go ahead as planned, but increased security measures will be taken.
