Former employees of the SBU in Crimea will be tried for cyberattacks against Ukraine

In Ukraine, the case against two former employees of the Security Service of Ukraine has been brought to court. It is confirmed that they, being in the annexed Crimea, switched to the side of Russia and worked for the Russian FSB. They are accused of carrying out cyberattacks directed at Ukrainian critical infrastructure facilities.

Kyiv claims that the accused were members of the Armageddon hacker group, which from January 2020 to March 2021 hacked computer systems of economic, law enforcement, and defense institutions of Ukraine.

According to the SBU, agents were installed in 2021. They are suspected of treason and unauthorized interference with computers. The articles provide up to 15 years of imprisonment.

In November 2021, the Prosecutor General’s Office reported that eight former employees of the Security Service of Ukraine were suspected of treason due to cyberattacks related to the Armageddon hacker group.
