On Wednesday, the Verkh-Isetsky district court of Yekaterinburg sent publicist Yaroslav Shirshikov to a pre-trial detention center for two months in a criminal case of justifying terrorism because of his post about the death of blogger Vladlen Tatarsky. Mediazona and Sota report this.

At the end of March, Shirshikov was the first to report on the detention in Yekaterinburg of The Wall Street Journal correspondent Evan Hershkovich, who was later accused of treason and sent to pre-trial detention center.

Shirshikov himself was detained the day before. According to lawyer Fyodor Akchermyshev, the case against him was initiated because of a post on the Telegram channel “Husarskaya bravada”, published shortly after the death of pro-military blogger Tatarsky as a result of an explosion in St. Petersburg. At the same time, it was said in the post that its author is “against [того]so that something would explode in the cities and people would die,” however, regarding Tatarsky himself, it contained a wish for “a glass-wool earth.”

Earlier, pro-war activists mourned Shirshikov’s posts about the death of Tatarsky and Darya Dugina, who was also killed in an explosion last year.

According to “Mediazony”, no one was allowed into the courtroom for the election of the public relations officer, except for the lawyer and the prosecutor. Attorney Akchermyshev told “Sote” that the defense proposed to the court to choose a restraining measure not related to detention, but the court did not listen to it. According to the lawyer, Shirshikov was not beaten or humiliated after his arrest.

Earlier, Yaroslav Shirshikov became famous as one of the leaders of the protests against the construction of the church on the site of the city square, which ended with the success of the protesters.

In Russia, in recent years, dozens of criminal cases have been initiated on the charge of justifying terrorism, including sentences to real terms of imprisonment.

Vladlen Tatarsky (Maxim Fomin) was killed in an explosion in St. Petersburg on the evening of April 2. Dozens of people were injured in the explosion, but one Tatarsky was killed. Daria Trepova, a resident of St. Petersburg, was arrested on suspicion of having committed an explosion and was accused of a terrorist attack. The Russian investigation claims that the Ukrainian special services were involved in the explosion, but Kiev either denies it or leaves it without comment.
