The Georgian authorities will allow direct flights of Russian airlines that have not been sanctioned.

This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Economy of Georgia, Mariam Kvrivishvili, reports “Evropeyska Pravda” with reference to the Mtavari TV channel.

“If the application is submitted, all companies and those boards that have not been sanctioned will be able to perform direct flights to Georgia, just as they operate in Israel, Turkey, Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates,” she said.

Krivishvili emphasized that the Georgian authorities have not yet issued flight permits, as no Russian airline has yet submitted a corresponding request.

According to her, direct flights will help Georgian citizens living in Russia to “reunite with their homeland.”

On May 10, it became known that Russia canceled the visa requirement for citizens of Georgia who go to the Russian Federation on short trips, as well as canceled the ban on flights from Russia to Georgia, which has been operating since the summer of 2019 – after the events known as “Gavrilov night”.

President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili called it a provocation the latest decisions of Russia and called to convene the National Security Council and review the conditions of entry of Russians into the territory of Georgia.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchilashvili, commenting on Russia’s decision to cancel the visa regime for Georgians, noted that “for humanitarian reasons”, this decision of Moscow can be welcomed.
