On Wednesday, a meeting between Turkey, Russia, Ukraine and the UN began in Istanbul regarding the continuation of the “grain initiative”, from which the Russian Federation threatens to withdraw after May 18.
This is reported by the Turkish agency Anadolu with reference to the statement of the Minister of National Defense of Turkey, Hulusi Akara.
“Today, a meeting of the deputy defense ministers of Turkey, Russia, Ukraine and representatives of the UN began in Istanbul,” Akar said. “We are continuing our negotiations to ensure that this work does not stop and that stability is maintained.”
The Turkish minister reminded that 30 million tons of grain have already been exported within the framework of the “grain corridor”.
We remind you:
Remains of Ukrainian grain destined for export amount to 12 million tons. Considering the blockade on exports by some European countries and the instability of the “grain corridor”, Ukraine can not have time export this product to the new harvest.
Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction Oleksandr Kubrakov in March reported on the extension of the grain initiative for 120 days. Russia threatened to withdraw from the agreement after 60 days – on May 18.
