The Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced activist artist Bohdan Zyza to 15 years in a colony under the general regime, who painted blue and yellow paint on the Yevpatoria administration building. He will spend the first four years in prison. “Grate” reports about this.
The prosecutor previously requested 18 years of imprisonment in a high-security prison for Zyza.
The artist was found guilty of justifying terrorism, preparing to commit a terrorist attack, and vandalism motivated by political enmity.
In his last words, he announced that he would start a hunger strike on June 10 and demand that he be given his Russian citizenship, which he received after the annexation of Crimea. The artist separately noted that he forbids the use of forced feeding.
Bohdan Zyza was detained in Yevpatoria on May 16, 2022. According to the investigation, he covered the facade and doors of the city administration building in Yevpatoria with yellow and blue paint. The FSB claims that he also threw a “Molotov cocktail” through the window, but the incendiary mixture went out and the fire did not occur.
After the arrest of the artist, the Krym 24 TV channel released a video in which a man calling himself Bohdan Zyza confesses to the crime. Later, Zyza said that the police beat him before the recording.
Last summer, Bohdan Zyza was included in the list of extremists and terrorists.
