The court session in Navalny’s case in the colony was closed to journalists

Journalists were not allowed to attend the preliminary hearing on the new criminal case against Alexei Navalny, which is scheduled to take place today, June 6, in the colony in the Vladimir region, where the politician is serving his sentence. “Today, Alexei has a preliminary hearing, at which the judge would probably close the process. But he was closed BEFORE. That is, no journalists were allowed in, without any decision, just like that. You can’t film this court, you can’t listen to him,” Yarmysh wrote on Twitter .

New charges against Navalny have been brought under seven articles of the Criminal Code. The heaviest of these articles is about the creation of an extremist community. The Russian authorities consider the Anti-Corruption Foundation and Navalny’s headquarters to be such associations. According to this article, a penalty of up to ten years of imprisonment may be threatened.

Other articles – calls for extremism, creation of an NGO encroaching on the rights of citizens, financing of extremism, involvement of minors in committing dangerous acts, and rehabilitation of Nazism. In a separate production, an episode on an article about terrorism is allocated.

The case was supposed to be heard by the Moscow City Court. The preliminary hearing was initially scheduled for May 31, but then, without explanation, was postponed to June 6, and then it became known that the trial would be held in the colony, where Navalny is serving a 9-year sentence on charges of fraud.

A criminal case on extremism against Navalny and his associates was initiated in October last year. A number of members of Navalny’s team, who are now abroad, pass through it as suspects.

Navalny himself and his associates consider the criminal prosecution to be political.
