The head of PMC “Wagner” Yevgeny Prigozhin announced on the evening of June 23 about the attack of the Russian military on PMC positions. He announced the “March of Justice”, which should help bring the leadership of the Ministry of Defense to justice. The authorities talk about the demand for rebellion.

PMCs have been in open conflict with the Ministry of Defense since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. Yevgeny Prigozhin accused the department’s leadership of incompetence, refusals to supply equipment, high losses, and the loss of positions captured by the Wagnerites. Prigozhin openly insulted Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov and promised them “retribution.”

In the afternoon of June 22, Prigozhin statedthat the war with Ukraine in February 22 started because the Ministry of Defense deceived the President of Russia Vladimir Putin. According to him, Ukraine did not provoke the war, but military actions were necessary for Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to receive the rank of marshal. This version contradicts the Kremlin’s official position and Western media sources who reported that Putin himself made the decision to start hostilities.

In the evening of the same day, Prigozhin accused the Russian Ministry of Defense in striking PMC rear camps with the help of artillery and combat helicopters. According to the businessman, there are many victims in the ranks of PMC’s ego. Prigozhin did not specify where exactly the strikes took place, one video with the alleged consequences of the strike was shown on social networks of the Wagnerites, but it is not clear from it where, when and what happened.

On Friday evening, Prigozhin appeared on the channels audio appeal “from the council of commanders of PMC “Wagner”. There, Prigozhin said that the PMC intends to stop “the evil that the military leadership of the country carries.” Prigozhin asks “no one to show resistance” and promises “they will destroy any roadblocks that stand in our way, and any aircraft.”

PMC “Wagner” will be returned to the Ukrainian front, he promises after the “restoration of justice”. Prigozhin clarified that he had 25,000 soldiers at his disposal and called on all willing Russians to join them, including members of the regular army.

Prigozhin called the purpose of the announced campaign to bring the leadership of the Ministry of Defense to justice. The Ministry of Defense of Russia stated that all messages distributed on social networks in the name of Prigozhin do not correspond to reality and are considered a provocation. The National Anti-Terrorist Committee, the FSB, and the General Prosecutor’s Office announced the initiation of a criminal case against Prigozhin for inciting sedition. The FSB called on PMC employees to detain Prigozhin. The Kremlin said that the situation is under Putin’s control.

Video appeals to the Wagnerites were recorded by the former commander of the Russian group of troops in Ukraine, Army General Sergey Surovykin and Deputy Head of the GRU, Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseev. Surokyvin called on the Wagnerites to “stop the columns” and return to their locations. Alekseev called what happened “a blow to the back of the country and the president.”

Representatives of the security forces raised the alarm in Moscow and Rostov-on-Don, where, according to Prigozhin, Shoigu was still during the day. Mass media reported on the general gathering of police officers, riot police and special forces of the Russian Guard. The authorities announced that key facilities and the headquarters building of the Southern Military District in Rostov had been taken under protection.

Prigozhin declared that his troops had crossed the border and were entering Rostov-on-Don. No evidence was given for this.
