Bloggers Haoyan Xu and Gela Gohyshvili were detained in Kazan for an article about LGBT+ propaganda. This is reported by “OVD-Info”.
Now the young people are in the police department, the lawyer was allowed to see them more than an hour after the arrest. According to Gohyshvila, Xu was stopped at Burger King to check his passport data and registration. He did not have any documents with him, so Xu asked Hogyshvili to bring them. Upon his arrival, both were detained. Xu is a citizen of China and may face deportation, Hogishvili added.
Young people run the Telegram channel “Kitaeza and Grueza” and publish videos about their relationships on TikTok and YouTube. Recently, they told Radio Svoboda that homophobes began to persecute them and threatened them with reprisals. According to Gohyshvyla, the harassment was organized by “Orthodox activist” Timur Bulatov, known for his denunciations. After that, they started writing to bloggers that they would be killed, executed and castrated.
The pursuers also complained to the police, which is why the bloggers were repeatedly called by criminal investigation officers, demanding to appear at the police station and pay a fine.
- Since December 2022, the dissemination of positive information about homosexuality, bisexuality and transgenderism has been prohibited in Russia. Fines of up to 400,000 rubles for citizens and up to five million rubles for organizations are provided for this.
