In Arkhangelsk, an NGO that saved wild animals was liquidated

The court in Arkhangelsk issued a decision to liquidate the non-profit environmental organization “Mata-Mata”. It was the only NGO in the region that was engaged in the protection of wild animals.
Specific reasons for liquidation are not specified. In court documents, the administration of the Ministry of Justice for the Arkhangelsk Region and the Nenets Autonomous District is the plaintiff.
As Sota reports, “Mata-Mata” volunteers rescued and prepared sick or injured wild animals and birds for their return to natural conditions. In January 2021, the head of “Mata-Mata” Elena Fokina was detained for participating in rallies in support of Alexei Navalny. In February of the same year, it became known that at the request of the prosecutor’s office, Rosprirodnadzor began an investigation into “Mata-Mata”. After that, the NGO announced the suspension of its activities and significantly reduced the volume of work.
